Director of Economic Development
Gibson County is seeking a creative team player and forward-thinking Director of Economic Development to lead initiatives that drive economic growth and prosperity across the county. This leadership role will involve close collaboration with the county mayor, city mayors, chambers of commerce, industrial development boards, and other key partners to design, implement, and support strategic efforts aimed at enhancing the local and regional economy.
This position offers candidates a supportive community environment with significant existing assets and opportunities to build on the economic development successes the county has achieved over the past ten to fifteen years.
Background
The Gibson County Office of Economic Development was created in 2014 to serve as the lead economic development organization for Gibson County, Tennessee. Over the past decade, the county has experienced significant and sustainable growth with over 2,500 new jobs created in the industrial, commercial, and retail sectors and over $600,000,000 dollars of new capital investment generated.
Gibson County has a population of approximately 50,500 and includes the cities of Bradford, Dyer, Gibson, Humboldt, Kenton, Medina, Milan, Rutherford, Trenton, and Yorkville. The seven-county regional population is just over 292,000.
Gibson County has a twenty-five-member County Commission, three Chambers of Commerce (Greater Gibson, Humboldt, Milan), five school systems, and six industrial development boards.
Gibson County is located in the heart of west Tennessee just north of the city of Jackson with access to interstate I-40. The West TN Railroad has two main rail lines that either serve or have the feasibility to serve our industrial sites.
Key Responsibilities
•Recruiting new businesses to the area
•Supporting the growth and retention of existing businesses
•Advancing site and product development initiatives
•Promoting workforce development programs
•Identifying and pursuing grant opportunities
•Working with and advising the county and municipal industrial development boards
•Leading incentive negotiations and approval processes
•Partnering in community development efforts
•Managing public relations and outreach related to economic initiatives
•Maintaining up to date site/building and community related demographic information
Ideal Candidate Profile
•A Team Player, highly organized, proactive, and dependable
•A creative problem solver with sound judgment and the ability to meet tight deadlines
•Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities
•Comfortable taking initiative and assuming new responsibilities as needed
•Skilled at building relationships and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
•Flexible and adaptable to a variety of tasks and changing priorities
•Proficient in Outlook, Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe and general computer technology
•3-5 years of economic development experience preferred
•Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in business, marketing, or ED related field preferred
